Scorpions: The Lobsters of the Desert With Awful Taste
You’ve heard of surf & turf… but what about sting & turf?
Believe it or not, scorpions and lobsters are distant cousins. They both wear tough exoskeletons, have creepy claws, and strut around like they own the place. The difference? One pairs well with butter. The other pairs well with pain.
Both evolved protective armor (exoskeletons) and pinching appendages for hunting and defense.
They both have chelicerae/pincers, but scorpions use theirs for grabbing prey before stinging, while lobsters use theirs mainly for crushing and cutting food.
Their “tails” look similar too — but in scorpions it ends with a venomous stinger, while in lobsters it’s a muscular tail fan used for swimming.
Lobster: Found in the ocean, delicious on a plate.
Scorpion: Found in your shoes, not so delicious at all. In fact the direct opposite.
So next time you see a scorpion crawling across your floor, don’t think “seafood boil.” Think “call the professionals.” Because these “lobsters of the desert” don’t come with drawn butter — just a nasty sting.
