Imagine this scenario – you are home alone at night in your bed, and feel a quiver down your spine. Something is making you feel uneasy. Something about this night feels unusual. Almost like a heavy blanket is smothering you, trying to squeeze the life out of you. You have that uneasy feeling that something is watching you. Then you hear scratching above you in the attic. You want to pretend you did not hear anything and assume it is all a bad dream. You try to go back to sleep.
However, noises come again waking you up and throwing reality back at you like a speeding bullet. You hear scratching and skittering noises moving through your home. The lack of sleep is getting to you – Is it a monster? Monsters can scratch and skitter you tell yourself. You turn on the light to scare off whatever is lurking around you. However, the light doesn’t scare off the intruder, it makes them run faster. Out of the corner of your eye you spot a furry shape whizzing by. What is it??
You are now very awake, and realize the ‘monster’ is real and fuzzy. But now you can’t find it. What could be causing all that scratching noise? It’s highly unlikely that the culprit is an actual monster. It is most likely a rat or a mouse – and these rodents can cause much more damage to your home than a monster.
